8. Verifiable Credentials (VCs) – Part I

We explain verifiable credentials (VCs) within SSI, comparing them to physical documents such as an ID card or driver’s license. These digital credentials can be issued to individuals, companies or organizations to prove specific identities or qualifications. In addition, VCs can detail subject information, issuing authority, credential type, specific attributes, evidence of issuance and restrictions on use. It is important to note that the veracity of a verifiable credential depends on trust in the issuing entity, not only on digital verification.
